Litter Picking Volunteers Event 29th Sept 2015
You don't normally think of Darrington as being an area that is blighted by litter, as most residents use the bins that are situated throughout the village. However, there is a small minority of people who think that they have the right to drop litter wherever they want with little regard to the consequences, and like magic it disappears. Fortunately, in September Parish Councillors and a small band of dedicated volunteers worked alongside Wakefield MDC Street Scene one morning to help to tidy up the area.
There wasn't sufficient time or volunteers to cover every street but in the short time that was available 1 three piece suite, 1 TV, 3 abandoned road signs and 10 tyres that had all been dumped on the road verges were correctly disposed of, together with about 30 bags of litter being collected. So its a big thank you for all those who did get involved and for one day only the litter fairy did visit Darrington so lets hope it remains litter free in the future.
